SCULPTURE AND INSTALLATION
My works start and end with the audience: the way a consumer receives my artwork shapes the way I produce it. My extended series, Manufactured Empathy, capitalizes on this approach by embodying viewers visceral feelings through abstract objects.
In sculpture and installation art, I am always thinking about the ways a viewer interacts with a piece or moves through a space. Where is their eye drawn? Where do they walk? What do they feel?
MIXED MEDIA PAINTING AND PORTRAITURE
Even when I am working in two-dimensions, viewer interactions shape the artistic choices I make. I strive to make viewers feel something, and what better way to do that than think from their perspective?
Whether its scale - does a large piece feel imposing, and a small one pitiful? The texture of my materials, and the strength they convey. Or even color- its saturation and range, Every choice I make guides what consumers should feel.
